Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth - T.R.O.Y.

All i have to say is...listen to the original sample by Tom Scott - Today.

Then listen to how Pete Rock flipped it. All i have to say is RESPECT...because back then...owning 10 second samplers sucked and it took major skill to even make a beat!

Saigon - Come on Baby

You know what is hilarious...a coworker of mine went to school with Just Blaze. LOL Small world when it comes to New Jerseyan's. Anyways, he also said that he was a dorky looking dude but with some sort of musical talent. Hey from what i remember all the dorks and top of the class people are rich now. How ironic?

Anyways, I'm feeling this new Saigon video. Reminds me of DMX's video...forgot the name and Common - The Game's Video. Some real hip hop feel. Enjoy.

What happened to the Neptunes?

They had a predominant career just a few years ago, then they went M.I.A. Well, i know that Chad has a family and all...but maybe there doing seperate things? Lately, I've been hearing and seeing Pharell on production credits and not the Neptunes. Maybe thats the case. Anyways...they had a very unique and simple sound. Always had the same stacked snares, used a lot of live instruments, but synthesized almost everysound to make it sound more "Neptunish" or "out of this world."

Neptune came from the god of water i believe? They wanted to cover the world with there music like how water covers most of the earth. Very inventive name, but there music is still legendary.

So...let me showcase some songs that everyone will remember, but also forgot throughout the neptunes career LOL. That were all classics of course.

Babyface - There She goes

Toni Braxton - Hit the Freeway

Kelis - Caught out there (I hate you)

Classic Beats, from classic musicians.

Presentation

I just recently saw this live performance, from a man who is of the name of Bill Miller. A Native American man who has gone through a big struggle in his life from his alcoholic father, to his family, to be successful in his music career, and to have 2 grammy's. Now...why the fuck am i saying this in a hip hop theory blog? Exactly the point, different personalities in hiphop stress the struggle in black people. I think that we have also forgot about, every person who has gone through struggle in there life. EVERYONE, in the past has gone through some sort of struggle. And people still go through it. It is sort of sad, but the truth of the matter is...the music helps express this.

Just thinking about the corolation between all music...its the same...just different meters and organization of sounds. Thats the only difference.

Hot Thing v.s. Vivrant Thing

Ya'll who grew up with me know about tracks from Rawkus Records and more importantly Violator! The essence of JDilla club tracks. For example...Vivrant Thing and Breath and Stop from Q'Tip. Oh my gosh, when ANYONE heard these tracks it was on yo! You felt everyone's vibe yo...i remember when this shit first came out i had goosebumps. ONE OF THE GREATEST HOUSE/HOTEL PARTY tracks ever. I picked up a lot of hunny's on this jam; it was a very confident track--which overall made everyone feel good. And the best part about it...it doesn't sound like this new club shit now. Dont get me wrong...the new shit now can get anyone to wiggle; however we miss the head banging days.

THANK YOU TALIB...for helping us reminisce about how it used to be. Hot Thing has the same vibe. BTW, this video was produced by HP not APPLE get it right!

Talib Quali - Hot Thing

And to bring a dedication to the song's that we miss at the clubs...that everyone can remember and agree that are more then classic but legendary.

WITH THE QTIP REMIX ! (although i love the original better, most people remember the remix.)

I am probably going to tell my children about this song...like how my father told me about how Al Green and the Temptations were the joints in his day. Man, its just weird how history can repeat itself.

Enjoy for now, until the next time i get back at ya.

Gil Scott Heron - Ghetto Style

In my opinion, if you dont know who this man is, you don't know the beginning of hiphop (this is soul music/acid jazz - not even hiphop yet!). We aren't talking about the state now...we are talking about how it was used back then. From Public Enemy to NWA to even Pete Rock. Many concidered this man, one the of founders of Rap--moreover Rap that sent out a message. I concider him the godfather, even though some say Muhammed Ali helped in the publicizing of rap (sting like a bee poetic intimidation). He has been sampled by many, but sampled out of the respect of the man.

The revolution will not be televised, this quote was also used by Common in his track "6th Sense".

"Home is where the hatred is" is a very deep song about a man and his struggle with home. Home being either where he is...or home being is drug addiction and how he finds the feeling of "home" when he is high.

Either or, this vinyl is very hard to find. So if i were you, get the re-issue cd at Amazon.

Thanks for Reading.
